Dr. Zakir is invited faculty for several international conferences and is a recognized national figure in the treatment of patients with coronary artery disease and peripheral arterial disease.
Dr. Zakir became the first physician in New Jersey to utilize a recently FDA approved device to enhance the treatment of patients with peripheral arterial disease. Lutonix, a balloon that releases a drug to help reduce the recurrence of blockages is a new promising tool in the fight against peripheral arterial disease.
Dr. Zakir was the first in New Jersey to become certified in New Jersey to perform coronary orbital atherectomy, a treatment to break up calcium in the coronary arteries to allow for stent placement in difficult to treat patients.
Zakir is considered an upcoming leader in interventional cardiology and is at the forefront of adapting new technology to enhance patient care.
Dr. Zakir has treated numerous patients with complex blockages in the legs utilizing a new technology called lightbox to restore flow to the feet allowing for resolution of pain when walking and healing of wounds.
